AR Sprinter is Olympic Trials Bound

May 07, 2012 By: John Blue Category: Collegiate, General Running News, Track, Videos

One advantage of the apparent death of the “arena deal” is that the Bee has some extra ink lying around that they can use to write about some other, better sports.

For example, this morning’s sports page has an excellent story on American River College sprinter Diondre Batson.

Batson, 19, has already earned himself an Olympic “A” standard time in the 200 with his 20.53 at the Mt. SAC Relays. (Video below.)

Batson is still about .05 seconds shy of the “A” standard in the 100, but seems to have room for improvement. Does he have enough time before the trials to get there? We can only hope.

Parkway Detour Update–Updated

March 05, 2012 By: John Blue Category: General Running News, Parkway Updates

Last week, I wrote about some repairs of the parkway around the 3 mile mark. The work was supposed to have finished by now, but there have been delays.

The notice from the Sacramento County Regional Parks said:

Beginning Thursday, March 1, the American River Parkway Bike Tail will have a short detour near Mile 3 while work is being performed to repair damage (undermining) to the trail by beavers. The detour will take trail users off the paved tail for less than 100 feet and onto the adjacent unpaved maintenance road. The detour will be in effect until the repairs are completed.

ARC Men Win State Title

May 23, 2011 By: John Blue Category: Collegiate, Track

It looks like another local college’s track and field program had a good year, this time at the community college level.

The American River College men won the California Community College Athletic Association Track and Field Championships this weekend on their home turf.

Mt. San Antonio and El Camino tied for the women’s crown.

To wrap it all up, the Beavers won the 4 x 400 relay with the state-best time of the season, 3 minutes, 13.00 seconds.

A 1970s teletype version of the complete results is here (PDF).
