Locals Shine at Redding NorCal 10
The first race of the Pacific Association USATF Road Race Grand Prix took place this past Saturday in Redding, with the running of the John Frank Memorial NorCal 10 Mile.
The race is a hilly and scenic out-and-back along the Sacramento River, finishing at Lake Redding Park. (If you ever figure out where the lake is at Lake Redding Park, let me know.)
The overall winner was the Aggies’ Phillip Reid, of San Luis Obisbo, who clocked an impressive 50:18 on this challenging course. Finishing second was West Valley Track Club’s Alex Varner, of San Francisco, with a 50:28. Varner’s WVTC teammate, Malcolm Richards, also of San Francisco, finished third in 50:47.
The women’s winner was the Impala’s Madeline Kramer, of Berkeley, who ran 1:00:12. The next woman in was Stephanie Kato of San Jose (unattached), coming in second at 1:01:31. Running for SRA Elite and finishing third was Jessica Clayton, of Wheatland, with a 1:02:20.
It was a Rebels sweep in the men’s masters’ division.
The first masters finisher was the Rebels Marcelo Lerda of Lincoln, 41, who earned a 54:55. Next in was teammate Iain Mickle of Sacramento, 52, with a 55:02. Rounding out the top three was Rebels’ Chris Knorzer of Rocklin, 44, who ran 55:51.
The top masters woman was Impala Jaymee Marty, 45, of Sacramento, who crossed the finish in 1:02:27. Coming in second master, and also running for the Impalas, was Sacramento’s Kirsten Schneider, 45, who ran 1:06:20. Running unattached, and finishing third master was Rosa Gutierrez of San Jose, 49, with 1:08:55.
