Cross Country is in the Air!

While I didn’t need arm warmers, this morning’s run was considerably cooler than the heat we’ve been laboring in over the past few months.

Could fall be around the corner? Why it certainly can be!!

How can I be so sure? (I mean, besides looking at a calendar?)

I know autumn is here because it’s cross country season!

If you feel stuck in the rut of grinding out mile after mile on the Parkway, and racing yet another pavement 5K, perhaps you should try a quick run on the dirt.

Fortunately for us, there are three cross country races in the Sacramento area. These are open races, meaning they are not school events, and will have separate races for open men, women, and masters men. Cross country races are a throwback to a simpler time—no shirts, no bands and no gimmicks.

All of ours are part of the Pacific Association USATF Cross Country Grand Prix.

The first is tomorrow morning in Granite Park. It’s the 2nd Annual Rebels XC Challenge, hosted by the River City Rebels.

In conjunction with the grand prix event, the Rebels will be hosting the Rebels Rebellion 5K, an hour before the Rebels XC Challenge.

Next up, on October 6th, is the Buffalo Chips4th Annual Willow Hills XC Open. This will be held on the cross country course at Folsom High School.

And finally, on October 27th, is the 3rd Annual Ancil Hoffman Challenge, hosted by the Golden West Athletic Club. You will not be surprised to learn it will be run at Ancil Hoffman Park.

The details (price, directions, schedule, etc.) for all these races, and a bunch in the bay area, are on the PAUSATF’s detailed schedule.

All of these races are short, fun, and spectator friendly, and a great way to enjoy some fall racing. They are also a bargain at $15 pre-registered or $20 on race day!

I hope to see you out there!
